Are you staying abroad and need a sworn translation (e.g. of a birth certificate, vehicle registration document, or a flat lease agreement)?
Keep in mind that translation rules differ in almost every country. Even among European countries, the applicable standards can vary. If you are in Belgium and need to have a document translated, there are a few important points to remember, described below.
Belgium has three official languages. So when ordering a translation, keep in mind that documents can be translated into:
✅Belgian Dutch (Flemish),
✅French
✅or German.
Belgium does not have an official list of sworn translators operating in the country. Keep in mind that the list of sworn translators may differ for each court. If you want to use the services of a sworn translator, you need to contact the relevant court’s registry or office.
Keep in mind that a translation will only be recognised as certified if the signature of the translator who performed it has been confirmed by the relevant court.
Some documents not translated by a sworn translator (from Polish into French) may be certified by the Consular Department of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Belgium.
