The topic of sworn translations is one you particularly enjoy, so I’m returning to it once again. Today we’ll look at a country close to Polish history – Hungary 😊
It’s worth knowing that the institution of sworn translator does not exist in Hungary. So who is responsible for producing certified translations of documents?
The answer to this question is provided by Council of Ministers Decree No. 24/1986.
According to it, translations of documents into Hungarian are carried out by the 🔶National Office for Translation and Attestation🔶. This body has offices and branches throughout the country, so access to it is not difficult.
The translation must include:
🔶the office’s stamp (with its name) in French and Hungarian,
🔶the Hungarian state emblem,
🔶revenue stamps,
🔶the signature of the office director (or an authorised person),
🔶the date the translation was made.
Although translations may only be carried out by people holding qualifications as specialist translators or specialist translator-lecturers, according to the law mentioned above other agencies may also carry out such translations.
It’s worth remembering that these translations may concern only selected documents in the official languages of the European Union.
